The passengers coming at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj National airport are illegally being
charged of Rs. 40 as a service fee by the contractor company GVK. For the pre-paid taxi
booth facility, GVK is charging Rs. 40 for each passenger whereas the fee is only Rs. 20 for each passenger. Even after making several complaints to the local administration to the chief ministers, this illegal money collection is going on.

Taxi organizations against GVK’s illegal charges

The contract for pre-paid taxi booth to be run on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj National
Airport has been given to GVK Company. To run this booth, RTO has allowed GVK to take
Rs. 20 as a service fee. However, 40 rupees are being taken under the name of the service fee by GVK. Due to the financial woes of the passengers, many passengers prefer to get a taxi from outside the airport premises rather than catching it from a taxi booth. As a result the Taxis and Autos driver’s income is badly affected, they are unable to earn for their livelihood. Therefore many taxi organizations have been repeatedly complaining since 2017 against GVK’s illegal charges but no action has been taken yet. “I cannot give any information about this, you can contact to corporate communications department,” said GVK’s Deputy General Manager Suresh Chavan to ‘My Mahanagar.’ However he refused to provide telephone number of concern department.

Andheri RTO had issued a notice to the GVK Company

Maharashtra Swabhiman Party leader Nitesh Rane, along with the taxi unions have
complained to Andheri RTO against GVK. Post the complaint, the Andheri RTO had issued a notice to the GVK Company for the extra charges taken from the passengers. Answering to the notice GVK said, “We do not take any kind of parking charges. On the other hand Taxis and Auto Rickshaw drivers clean their vehicles at the taxi booth that spreads dirt here. The responsibility to clean this area is given to Crystal Company.

It is very wrong to take extra money from passengers to run the prepaid taxi booth at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj National Airport. We will not let that happen. In this regard, we have complained to the GVK and Regional Transport Department.

Nitesh Rane, MLA, Congress

No action was taken even after complaining many times. Instead of taking action on GVK, the RTO seems to be protecting them. From 2017 till today, we have complained to Chief Minister, Transport Minister still the loot of commuters is continued. Now we are going to court against GVK.
