Kerala is facing its worst flood situation in 100 years. This is the first major flood in Kerala's history. Around 7 Lakh people have been displaced by the flooding, seeking shelter in over 5,500 relief camps

The God’s own country Kerala is facing its worst flood situation in 100 years. This is the first major flood in Kerala’s history. Around 7 Lakh people have been displaced by the flooding, seeking shelter in over 5,500 relief camps.

The doctors are afraid of spreading pandemic disease in this area because of the flood water. Therefore, a team of more than 100 doctors of Maharashtra has reached to Trivandrum to control spreading pandemic. The doctor will provide necessary healthcare services at the required places, Dr. Santosh Gite told to ‘My Mahanagar’.

A team of more than 100 doctors reached to Kerala under the guidance of Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan, on Monday morning to provide quality medical care to the flood victims. In this medical squad, there are 55 doctors are from J.J. hospital, 26 doctors from Sasoon Hospital, Pune and 30 doctors from BJ Medical College. Indian Air Force has sent two aircraft for this special work. The team has moved to Kerala from 2 different aircraft.

Drugs, Food Stock for 3 to 4 days

Receding of flood water may take some more days. So these doctors have taken medicines and food supplies with them from the plane. It is going to be benefitted to the flood victims. More than 300 people have died in this flood, and more than 2 lakh people have become homeless. Doctors from Maharashtra will try to control this figure going further. The team of these doctors has enough stock of drugs for next 3 to 4 days to control the spread of diseases like dengue, malaria and other pandemic in the area.

Doctors from various fields are currently involved in this team.

From this medical squad of more than 100 doctors, a team of 30 doctors will conduct necessary surveys in 3 different teams and accordingly they will be giving health services to the affected people. The 3 different teams of doctors will go to three places Trichur, Ernakulam and Pathamnithitta. The teams will start work from the morning on Thursday. There will be 5 to 6 co-coordinators in the teams. All efforts will be made to prevent the spread of dengue, malaria and other diseases.

‘Red Alert’ in 11 districts

Several other cities in Kerala have also been warned with ‘Red Alert’. More than 11 districts have been issued ‘Red Alert’. Moreover, people from some of the areas have already been shifted to prevent further damage. Health checkup and treatment of flood victims will be done by this team of doctors. In this team of doctors, there are medicines, pediatricians, and gynecologist. Apart from this, if necessary, more doctors will be sent in the next phase in two to three days
