Returning to its service even after 9 months, Mumbai first Mono Rail has again failed to impress the Mumbaikars. After major fire incidents last year, the monorail that connects Chembur and Wadala was shut over safety concerns. Monorail is now back on tracks but Mumbaikar still doesn’t seem to be preferring its ride for their routine travel.
The shocking information has been revealed that there is reduction of 5000 passengers every day. The monorail which started after 9 months has seen 30 percent reduction in number of passengers.

Mono rail service has been resumed since September 1. Monorail takes 130 rounds every day from Wadala to Chembur. It has completed 3900 rounds in September. Monorail has seen a huge decrease in the number of people traveling throughout the month. Monorail service was closed for the period from November 2017 to August 2018 after the fire broke out in the compartment at Mysore Colony station of Mono Rail.

The passenger numbers decreased

From February 2014 to November 2017, the daily number of passengers traveling by monorail was 15 thousand. But since its restart from September 1, this number has decreased by an average of 5 thousand passengers. In the first month only 10 thousand passengers traveled by Mono. In September, the number of people traveled by Mono was 3 lakh 4 thousand 630. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has received revenue of Rs. 21 lakh 41 thousand in September due to monsoon. MMRDA was expecting to get the estimated revenue of 30 lakh rupees but they could not achieve this target.

Tickets price hike soon?

MMRDA has proposed a ticket price hike to increase the revenue. However, the administration has cleared that the ticket prices will not increase till the next phase of Wadala to Jacob Circle starts. As Mono rail is already struggling to get more passengers so the decision to increase the ticket price has been postponed.

Monorail is the Chembur Department. That’s why we have started the project again. Travelers have once again preferred to travel from mono to the mono rail. Travelers will certainly increase in the coming time.
