A Maratha youth became a victim of Maratha violent agitation

Dattatreya will be undergoing backbone surgery once after recovering from his serious injuries, said Dattatray's brother Suhas Chavan.

Dattatray Angad Waghmare, 33 year old young driver used to drive a container between Pune to Kalamboli. With all that penny income he used to get by driving was the only income source to run his family that includes his wife, son and a daughter. On the day of Maratha Reservation agitation on Wednesday, he took the container and came to Kalamboli. As he saw that the agitation had turned extremely violent, the road traffic was stopped by agitators, he parked his container aside and along with cleaner, Dattatray stood beside the road. But when police started firing, he feared for his life and then left the container and ran out from the place. But unfortunately he could not save himself. During the firing, Dattatray who was never part of the agitation, the bullet got hit in his lower back side, and now due to this Dattatreya has lost his job permanently.

On Wednesday, when Maratha agitation was very aggressive, large number of agitators protested on the street of Kalamboli in Panvel. They had stopped all the vehicles coming on that road post 11 AM in the afternoon. At the same time, Dattatray Angad Wagmare (33), who was driving a container from Pune to Mumbai, the Maratha protesters stopped his container. As the agitators were very aggressive, Dattatreya and the cleaner stopped the container and they remain seated in the cabinet of the container. From 11 am to 2.30 pm, they sat in the container cabin almost for three and a half hours. But around 2.30 the protesters started stone pelting. Therefore, Dattatreya got down from the container with his partner and stood at the side of the road to prevent any injury from stone pelting.

During 3.30 pm, the police fired smoke grenade and did firing to control the protesters. So both Dattatray and his partner ran to save their lives. But unfortunately Dattatray could not save himself. The bullet was hit in his lower back side and he collapsed on the spot. Looking at his critical situation, his partner started shouting. Seeing him shouting the police came forward and brought Dattatray by ambulance in MGM Hospital at Kalamboli Nakla. As the bullet got inside his lower back side, it caused multiple injuries to the blood vessels, esophagus and intestines. Dr. Sameer Kadam and Dr. Gedam saved his life by taking 14 parts of the bullet from his body. But Dattatreya is now unable to drive the van due to injury to his left foot and backbone. Also, he could not do heavy work like lifting any heavy thing, said Dattatray’s cousin Bhumiputra Wagh.

Giving him prompt treatment, the doctors saved Dattatreya’s life but he would be kept under observation for another five to six days. Dattatreya will be undergoing backbone surgery once after recovering from his serious injuries, said Dattatray’s brother Suhas Chavan.

Will not be able to run the container

Dattatreya (33) is a young worker from of Saatefal village in Kalamb taluka of Osmanabad district. For his work he got settled at Chikhali in Pune, with his wife, son and a daughter. Daily he used to bring four wheelers from the container in the dock of Mumbai from Pune. On Wednesday morning, he came to Mumbai with a container. Dattatreya was earning 20 to 25 thousand rupees monthly salary for this work. Dattatray is the only earning source to his family. His parents do farming for survival in Saatefal village. The doctor said that Dattatreya will not be able to drive a car anymore and he is not able to perform heavy work too. Being a only income source to his family, it is now a big problem in front of Dattatray & his family as how to survive financially.

Provide government job to Dattatray

Without having any fault and not even being a part of the agitation, Dattatray has faced a major health loss. Therefore government should give Dattatray a government job to him and bare all his medical expenses, Dattatray’s cousin Wagh demanded.

Meanwhile NCP’s Youth leader from Osmanabad, Malhar Patil, immediately rushed to MGM Hospital on Wednesday. Torna Hospital’s doctors also helped the MGM hospital’s doctors. The former Home Minister Dr. Padmasingh Patil met Dattatray on Thursday.
