Even after 100 days family refuses to take body, demands FIR against cops

Even after three months to the death of 17-year-old suspect boy died after being detained by Dharavi police, the body of SachinJaiswar is still lying at the JJ Hospital. His family has refused to carry out the final rites till an FIR is registered against the Dharavi police officers, who the family has accused of their son being assaulted in the police station. However the police have claimed that the boy died due to leptospirosis.

SachinJaiswar(17) who was studying in 9th standard lived in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Dharavi with family including mother, father, two brothers, two sisters, grandmother and grandfather. While his father is a Painter, his elder brother Sunil works for food delivery. According to brother Sunil, on 12th July, Police had brought Sachin to Dharavi police station as a suspect for mobile phone theft. However nothing was found in the inquiry, he was released almost after 22 hours due to lack of evidence in the inquiry.

Next day, SachinJaiswar was suffering from fever and body ache. He was the immediately taken to the doctor but after his condition worsened he was admitted to the Sionhospital.On 15th July, Sachin did blood vomitwhile he was being treated. He was then immediately shifted to ICU but he died during the treatment, Sachin’s brother Sunil told ‘My Mahanagar.’ He blamed that Police illegally kept Sachinin custody and tortured him and that is why he conditions worsened and he died.

However, Leptospirosis was found in SachinJaiswar’s postmortem report and also there was no mark on his body that shows he was physically tortured. Sachin’s family demanded to the Mumbai Police Commissioner to register an FIR against the respective police officers who detained Sachin. The case has been given tocrime branch by Mumbai Police.

The family also approached court in the matter and they are awaiting justice, so till date the family has refused to accept the SachinJaiswar’sbody. The body has been kept in the mortuary in JJ hospital.
