Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis did not take any concrete decision even after giving written and oral assurance on reservations; it is a very serious matter. Therefore, The Maratha community’s agitation is turning violent day-by-day.

Maratha MLA joins the movement

The agitation for the demand for Maratha reservation throughout the state has been going on since last four days. The agitation is now getting support from the all-party’s Maratha MLAs. Harshvardhan Jadhav, the MLA from Shiv Sena, was first one to send resignation to the Assembly Speaker, then NCP MLA Bhausaheb Chitgaonkar and Dattatreya Bharna resigned. Congress MLA Bhalke, Ramesh Kadam of NCP’s resigned on Thursday. BJP’s MLA from Chandwad Dr. Rahul Aher & West Nashik constituency’s MLA Seema Hire has handed over their resignation to the coordinators of the Maratha Kranti Morcha.  Maratha, Dhanagar, Mahadev Koli and Muslim communities are demanding reservation frequently. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has given oral assurance so far, but nothing has been fulfilled yet. “Looking at such situation where Maratha agitation has turned so aggressive, ethically I do not find it right to remain on the post of MLA,” said Bhalke. Similarly Shiv Sena, NCP, Congress and BJP MLAs have started giving resignations over Maratha reservation issue.

Turning violent day-by-day

Therefore, The Maratha community’s agitation is turning violent day-by-day. In such a situation, Morally, I do not feel to remain on the position as a representative of Maratha community.

Even though the MLAs have resigned, their position will remain same till upcoming winter assembly session. According to the rules of the legislation, we will first read their resignation letters in the house, then taking the reasons into consideration; the resignations are either accepted or rejected. Further this, the information of vacant post of MLAs is given to the Election Commission. Therefore the resignations of MLAs cannot be accepted till the next winter session (November 19).
