After the demonetization the central government introduced many new notes but now these new notes are not being useful for railway commuters.

To reduce the load on ticket counters and make the tickets available for commuters faster, the Railway has taken many initiatives along with UTS app for mobile ticket. One of such initiative was to install 400 ‘Cash & Coin operated Ticket Vending Machines’ at many crowded railway stations across the country in the year 2015. But today these machines seem to be failed in serving its main purpose. These machines are not accepting new notes of 10, 20, 50 & 100 rupees. So the commuters have to struggle to find the old notes. Also due to many technical issues in this machine, the passengers have stopped using it.

After the demonetization the central government introduced many new notes but now these new notes are not being useful for railway commuters. To help passengers from standing in the long queue the railway administration has made use of notes and coins to get the tickets from CTVM machines but these machines are not accepting new notes. The passengers are largely inconvenienced due to this issue and also the machines are becoming ineffective.

Out of 12 lakhs tickets taken by commuters at Central Railways about 2.5 lakh tickets are being taken from CTVM, rest of the tickets are taken from ticket windows. To reduce this load on ticket windows, Railway started these machines. About 180 CTVM machines have been installed in Mumbai at Central and Western Railway lines on crowded stations like CST, Dadar and Thane. Most of these CTVM machines are closed now. Ticketing from CTVM is very easy for travelers, and even the smart card is not needed. Once the Passenger inserts the correct amount of the ticket, the machine gives the ticket. However, now these
machines are not accepting new notes of 10, 20, 50, 100 rupees and also 5 & 10 rupee coin.
