‘This VVIP area’ in Mumbai affected by Metro work; 5 minutes road takes half an hour

The increasing traffic has become a big headache of working Mumbaikars. 'My Mahanagar' has done a reality check of traffic congestion of roads in Mumbai that are badly affected by Metro work.

The Mumbaikars are extremely pissed off with the increasing traffic congestion due to the ongoing Metro work. ‘My Mahanagar’ has done a reality check of traffic congestion of most important roads in Mumbai that are badly affected by Metro work.

Mumbai, the city of dreams where lakhs of people push hard to fulfill their dreams, but the increasing traffic has become a big headache of working Mumbaikars. There is no such road in Mumbai left with no traffic congestion.

Due to the on-going work of Mumbai Metro-III, the south Mumbai roads seems to be most affected one. The Mantralaya and the Vidhan Bhavan areas are also seen with big traffic congestion. When we did a reality check of this VVIP area, we found that from Mantralaya to the Free Press Road which is a distance of just five minutes; it takes almost half an hour due to Metro work and illegal parking on both sides.

30 minutes for 5 minutes distance

The Mantralaya to Free Press road is just 5 minutes by walk also but if you are in a car it will take you almost 30 minutes. The distance between Free Press road to Mantralaya is only 400 meters; however, due to metro work huge traffic congestion is a daily problem in this area. In our reality check, we also asked to taxi drivers, they also confirmed the same.

Traffic congestion in VVIP area  

There are renowned buildings like Mantralaya, Vidhan Bhavan, Free Press Building, Dalal Tower, Raheja Chambers, Tulasini Chambers, Manora MLA residence, SBI Bank Head Office and Maker Chambers in this area. Banking and private sector companies are also here, thousands of people work in these buildings. Some international level offices are also in the same area. Before the commencement of Metro work, it was surrounded by trees however all trees were slaughtered for Metro project.

Traffic Police also troubled

As the Metro work is going on a large scale in this area so barricades have been installed at both the side on a single road. When big vehicles travel from this area, it becomes very difficult to handle traffic, confirms Traffic Police.

The latest news is that 56 IT companies have taken a decision to shift from Pune to get rid from daily traffic congestion of Hinjewadi in Pune. If such scenario will be seen in Mumbai it would not be affordable for the city. Till the Metro work continues, the traffic congestion in Mantralaya area will remain the same.

One must avoid travelling on Free Press to CSMT Travel –

Mainly the jog going people travels from Central and Western Railway. So they travel from CSMT to Free Press and Churchgate to Free Press. By walk it takes 15 minutes from Charuchgate station to free press but taxi takes more than half an hour. And sometimes it is more than an hour to reach CSMT, the youth working here said. “I have been working here for three and a half years now, but for the past two months, there has been big traffic congestion in the morning and evening, I therefore prefer to go by walk
