राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेसचे नेते असलेले डी. पी. त्रिपाठी यांचं आज सकाळी दीर्घ आजाराने निधन झालं. ते ६७ वर्षांचे होते. राजधानी दिल्लीमध्ये एका खासगी रुग्णालयात उपचार घेताना त्यांची प्राणज्योत मालवली. मूळचे उत्तर प्रदेशच्या सुल्तानपूरचे असणारे त्रिपाठी १६व्या वर्षापासूनच सक्रीय राजकारणात सहभागी झाले होते. राजीव गांधी यांच्यासोबत त्यांना काम करण्याची संधी मिळाली होती. पुढे ते राजीव गांधींचे निकटवर्तीय म्हणून देखील ओळखले जाऊ लागले. जवाहरलाल नेहरू विद्यापीठात शिक्षण झालेल्या त्रिपाठी यांनी तरूणपणात इलाहाबाद विद्यापीठात राज्यशास्त्राचे प्राध्यापक म्हणून देखील काम केलं होतं. पुढे सोनिया गांधींशी झालेल्या मतभेदांमुळे त्यांनी काँग्रेसला सोडचिठ्ठी दिली आणि राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेसमध्ये प्रवेश केला. १९९९ साली राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेसच्या स्थापनेपासून ते शरद पवारांसोबतच होते.
त्रिपाठी यांच्या निधनानंतर देशभरातील नेतेमंडळींकडून दु:ख व्यक्त केलं जात आहे.

Scholar, intellectual, activist D.P. Tripathi was one of the finest orators in the Rajya Sabha. His speeches were always peppered with Sanskrit quotations and Urdu couplets. A very learned personality. My tributes.
