In general, Lanterns, Lamps, Rakhis or various small goods are made by prisoners. However, this time the prisoners are seen busy in making idols since last 8 months.Sagar Pawar, who had studied at JJ School of Arts, used to make idols in Ratnagiri and Pen. He is imprisoned in Nashik Jail for committing a crime. But in order to keep his passion and art alive, he put the proposal to the Jail administration for making the Ganapati idols in jail.

‘When this idea was presented to the jail administration, last year in month of May he was provided with Shadoo soil, colors and other materials to make Bappa’s idol. After that, Sagar made about 175 idols last year in Nashik Jail. These idols got a good response. The most important thing is that Sagar trained the other prisoners too and with their help this year they made 1400 idols of Bappa. For the last eight months, Sagar and a team of 20 people were making the idol and now the work is completed.’ – Rajkumar Sali, Superintendent, Nashik Road, Central Jail
